Elevate Your Tastes

Written by Uyoyou Christiana Charles-Iyoha

Where you are presently, no matter how seemingly satisfying it is; is a place of transition. You have to keep moving up the ladder, updating yourself spiritually, physically, martially, intellectually, emotionally, financially and materially. You should continue to add color to every area of your life. For instance, you are obligated to dress to match the position and resources God placed at your disposal. A person’s dressence and grooming to a large extent is a reflection of where the person is headed in life. Some cuts and style of clothes reflect rigidity and a refusal to move with the times. Such people are usually stuck in their ways and will not move in any new direction. In some cases, it is as a result of ignorance or lack. Once such people are empowered, they will move in the new direction God wants them to move in.

Be open to fresh unctions, changes from God. Change is a constant and necessary ingredient for progress. Change your methods to match who and where you are. It is time to move up the ladder. Move out of limiting environments, relationships and circumstances at the speed of light. Identify what God does not want you to carry into the new things He is doing in your life. They could be fear, doubt, disempowering relationships, limiting thought patterns, study habits, eating habits, etc. For instance, when experience becomes tradition, it becomes dangerous because experience boxed in becomes bags of limitations.

Therefore, innovate, create and impact through possibility thinking, possibility speaking and possibility implementation to get to the top and stay at the top where you will be celebrated. There is an anointing for staying at the top. Get the anointing, get to the top and remain there. Make your stay at the top permanent. Get there and stay there. Stop coming back to ignorance, obscurity and mediocrity.

One way of making your stay at the top permanent is to expand the time you spend with God. That is the start point for elevating your tastes. Spend more time with God in the closet. Operate a more organized prayer life that should become the norm in your life. A diligent and fervent prayer life on a daily basis that is not by might nor by power but by the Spirit of God is what you require. Please see James Chapter 5 verses 16 to 18. A fervent prayer life is one of the keys that will improve and elevate your taste. Pray more, study the Bible more, talk less – prophesy when God wants you to and keep quiet when you are not prophesying. Grow spiritually in prayer, word study, praise/worship, evangelism, intercession. As you continue serious and sincere in prayer, be very careful to notice any signs of danger or trouble and give thanks. Be alert, be devoted, have a thankful heart (Colossians Chapter 4 verse 2).
Prayers should be to God the Father who alone makes divine brands. Be consciously and actively involved and engaged in prayers. Step up your prayer life and be more fruitful in prayers in Jesus mighty name. Prayerlessness should be discarded while wishes and desires should be replaced by diligent prayer work in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Ask God to help you and you will be amazed at what your prayer life will become.

Great achievements in life are always followed by the pursuit of great dreams – something God puts in you to inspire you to greatness. There is power in your dreams if they are submitted to God. Therefore, dream great dreams. Elisha requested for a double portion anointing. A dream can be a tremendous power of influence. God always expects you to channel your energies to accomplish them so you can become great.

Pursue great people; the people you choose to associate with can determine to a large extent what you become. Elisha interacted with Elijah; Timothy, Titus and a number of great New Testament Ministers and believers with the Apostle Paul and they became great and successful. Have mentors and role models to learn from through physical interaction, listen to their messages, read their books, watch their videos or follow them on social media. You can also observe wise people and learn from them. Read autobiographies as well. Please see 1st Kings Chapters 3 to 4, verses 29 to 34.  Stick to wise people who inject strength into you by association (Proverbs Chapter 13 verse 20). To move to your next level, there are people you must separate yourself completely from. This is very critical for you to get to the next level God is taking you to.

Take great risks – radical steps of faith that lead to significance. These are usually informed risks based on knowledge and not fool hardiness.

There is no greatness without sacrifice. Therefore, be willing to make great sacrifices. Sacrifice means to let go of your agenda for God’s agenda. Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis Chapter 22 verses 1 to 16). Every great sacrifice is followed by a divine oath of greatness. At some point God will ask you to make a sacrifice, definitely not a human sacrifice as the sacrifices God demands are sacrifices of praise, thanksgiving and righteous living. Your response to the request for sacrifice determines your greatness. Sacrifices vary from small to big, big to bigger and biggest. What God may ask you to sacrifice could be non edifying habits by denying yourself the lust of the flesh, the pride of life, and lust of the eye. One way of denying yourself is through fasting, hours of Bible study, prayer, praise worship, sleep to pray at night, ungodly lifestyles and relationships – Hebrews Chapter 8 verse 7. The sacrifices believers are to offer are spiritual sacrifices (Romans Chapter 12 verse 1), to present our bodies as living sacrifices that are acceptable to God.  Your greatness cannot be greater than your level of sacrifice. Worship is not cheap. It is accompanied by sacrifice. Be willing to make great sacrifices to be great.

Exposure to quality is very important. You cannot be what you cannot see. Get acquainted with quality and implement quality at all costs. Also, have a burning desire to move forward. It is a hunger. Force yourself to hunger for quality and progress in life. Refuse to be static.

Do not be content with the victories of yesterday for yesterday is gone and today is here with its list of challenges, challenges that must be conquered immediately especially the ones that are satanically engineered or orchestrated.

Finally, do not lower your standards in any area of your life no matter whom or what is involved. Rather, always up your standards. Also, do not let down your guards no matter who is involved. Always up your spiritual antennae.
