Stand on the Promises of God 2

Written by Uyoyou Christiana Charles-Iyoha

Forgiveness of Sins
God loves you and desires to forgive you whatever sins the enemy deceived you into committing. That is one of the reasons Jesus Christ died for you, to separate you from and deliver you from sin. However, sin must be repented of to be forgiven. Please see 1st John Chapter 1 verses 8 to 10

Longevity
Longevity is the will of God for believers. Do not allow the devil deceive you into untimely death by accepting that sickness is of God to test you, or that you are bearing a burden for someone. Ask God for healing and deliverance if you are sick. It is significant to note that David prayed for healing and deliverance in life threatening situations. Please, see Psalm 71 verses 9 to 18.

Many saints such as the Apostle Paul (Philemon 9), Abraham (Genesis Chapters 24 verse 1 and 25 verses 7 to 8), Isaac (Genesis Chapter 27 verse 1, 35 verses 28 to 29), Job (Job Chapters 5 verses 25 to 26; 42 verses 16 to 17), David (1st Chronicles Chapter 29 verses 26 to 28, 1st Kings Chapter 1 verses 1 to 4), Jehoiada the Priest (2nd Chronicles Chapter 24 verses 15 to 16), Daniel, Nehemiah, Mordecai, Solomon (1st Kings Chapter 11) and many others in the Bible lived long and died in old age to be with the Lord. Pease see also Psalm 71 verses 9 to 18, 1st Kings Chapter 1 verse 1 and Proverbs Chapter 28 verse 16, Proverbs Chapter 10 verse 27, Proverbs Chapter 28 verse 16 and Psalm 41.
Prophetess Anna Phanuel of the tribe of Asher in Luke Chapter 2 verses 36 to 37 was about eighty four years old. Both Joshua and Caleb grew old serving God fervently. Even at eighty five, Caleb was strong, in fact he said he was as strong as he was when he was forty years old and he was determined to drive out the Anakims and take over Hebron. He did indeed drive out the Anakims. Please, see Joshua Chapters 13 verse 1, 14 verses 6 to 15 and 15 verses 13 to 19. Eli the Priest served God and lived to be ninety eight years old. (1st Samuel Chapters 2 verse 22; 4 verse 15). The Prophet Samuel was also an old man (1st Samuel Chapter 8 verses 1 to 5).

Longevity comes by obedience to God and His word. Please see Deuteronomy Chapter 11 verses 7 to 9, 18 to 21; Exodus Chapters 20 verse 12; 23 verses 22 to 26.

However, there are cases where sin interferes with longevity in a lineage as in the case of Eli’s sons. Rather than emulate their father, the sons of Eli were ungodly young men who profaned the priesthood and the sacrifices offered to God by the people. Though Eli heard the report of his sons’ doings and rebuked them, the young men were adamant in continuing in their evil ways. One day, God sent a man of God to Eli. The man delivered his message and left. Sadly, the message from God spoke of a generational tragedy of untimely death for all the men in Eli’s lineage. ‘..And there shall not be an old man in your house forever..’ And all the descendants of your house shall die in the flower of their age.’ Sadly, Eli’s two sons died in battle on the same day and their father though old died on the same day; not on account of the news of the death of his sons but because he was told that the Ark of God was captured by the Philistines. This is a very sad case study. Eli would have lived longer than ninety eight years and his sons and son’s sons and so on would have lived longer. More importantly, the priesthood would have remained in his family. But because of the sins of Hophni and Phinehas, God removed the priesthood from the family and punished all males with untimely death. Please, see 1st Samuel Chapter 2 verses 12 to 17, 22 to 25, 27 to 36.

Also in Ecclesiastes Chapter 7 verse 17 it is clear that sin shortens life. Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? KJV.
