Man is a spirit,
has a soul and lives in the body – inside the soul is the mind, will and
emotions (the will for decisions, the mind for processing and analysis
(Deuteronomy Chapter 30 verses 19 to 20), the emotions for expressing feeling.
The mind is the seat of reflecting consciousness, faculty of decision, making
judgments, and gaining understanding. The mind is also the place of conviction
– Matthew Chapter 11 verse 28.
That is why any form of satanic captivity starts in
the mind. The devil took Eve captive by muddling up her mental processes to the
point where she became uncertain of the exact command by God and consequently
disobeyed God. The devil was able to convince her that God was economical with
the truth – a lie from the pit of hell (John Chapter 8 verse 44). The devil
made Eve believe that God did not want them to be like Him which was why He
asked them not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil. The devil attempted this evil game with Jesus Christ at the temptation but
Jesus Christ overcame him with the truth of God’s word and consequently gave us
victory over every lie and deception of the enemy. Please see 1st
John Chapter 3 verse 8, John Chapter 10 verse 10, Matthew Chapter 4 verses 1 to
11, and Luke Chapter 4 verses 1 to 14.
The devil launches mental sieges to blind the minds
of people to the truth of the Word of God. (2nd Corinthians Chapters
3 verses 14 to 18; 4 verses 1 to 6; 11 verse 3, 1st Timothy Chapter
4 verses 1 to 3, 2nd Timothy Chapters 3 verses 1 to 9, 13; 4 verses
3 to 4, Titus Chapter 1 verses 9 to 16, 1st Timothy Chapter 1 verses
3 to 4, Proverbs Chapter 26 verse 28). The satanic tools of mental sieges
include lies (John Chapter 8 verse 44), deceptions, distorting the truth
(Genesis Chapter 3 verses 1 to 13), unbelief, fear, worry, anxiety,
disillusionment, depression, craftiness, deceit (2nd Corinthians
Chapters 4 verse 2; 11 verse 3), flattery and lack of understanding. Because
the mind is a battlefield, a place of strategic spiritual warfare, satan uses
it to make man displease God. The mind has the tendency to be blinded by satan
in order to block the blessings of God from your life.
While satan is free to fire arrows at your mind it
is your responsibility to choose not to respond as the enemy would have you
respond. Therefore, consciously rein in your thoughts and meditate on what God
wants you to think about. Control your thought life by putting your thoughts
under the control of the word of God (2nd Corinthians Chapter 10
verse 3, Hebrews Chapters 11 verse 3; 1 verse 3). If His word created you, His
word can maintain you.
Have a mind that
is receptive to the word of God and validates the word of God (Acts 17 verses
10 to 11). That was the mindset of the Christians in Berea and they were
commended for such attention to details.
Humility of
spirit is required so that you will humble yourself and not share the glory of
God with God. When you are humble, you always give glory to God. God resists
the proud and because the devil knows it, he would want to attack your mind
with pride. Pride corrupts the mind (Philippians Chapter 2 verses 5 to 12).
Meekness and humility will give you speed.
Encourage a
positive thought life. Please see Philippians Chapter 4 verse 8. Sin is
committed in the thought realm first (Colossians Chapter 3 verse 16). You
harvest with your mouth. Activate and transfer from your mind Hebrews Chapter 8
verse 10.
Be led by the
peace of God – Philippians Chapter 4 verse 6. The peace of God is the umpire of
God. The peace of God will help your mind to function properly.
Do not allow
yourself to be double minded – James Chapter 1 verse 8
Lay aside every
weight. Refuse to be bitter towards anyone. Try to get along with people so you can
survive. When you are bitter, you cannot make sound judgment. (Hebrews Chapter
12 verse 1).
